“Empowerment of women and gender equality are prerequisites for achieving political, social, economic, cultural, and environmental security among all peoples.”
Sabbara is a Social Enterprise that was established in Syria in 2012 as a response to the escalating war and its devastating consequences for families all over the country. Sabbara trains women refugees in traditional skills, to create a sustainable infrastructure for production, as well as develop an international market for their work.
Drawing on the many different cultural traditions within Syria, the women of Sabbara have created their own bright, colourful style, reflecting the pleasure they take in their work as well as their determination not to be beaten by their circumstances.
Community and education programmes have ensured all members of the families benefit. Your enjoyment of these projects makes a real difference to a great many lives.
