Stunning traditional Huichol art yarn painting featuring deer around a circle.
The Huichol or Wixáritari are Native Americans, living in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the Mexican states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango. The yarn paintings made by the Huichol are mystical and deeply magical. They are based on ritual arts and reflect the visions of the Huichol people, the work is not only an aesthetic or commercial art form.
The symbols in these Mexican yarn paintings come from Huichol culture and its shamanistic traditions. They are created on a base of bees wax and pine resin ontop of which threads of multi coloured yarn are used to bring the visions to life.
Huichols retain their traditional beliefs and are resistant to change. It is with deep respect and honour that we are working with a traditional Huichol artist helping to support his family and community, and to help the survival of this ancient sacred culture.
